- From [Regional Coexistence] to [Building Together] - Aiming for a Co-Built Facility
Shimane Asahi Rehabilitation Program Center aims for the genuine reformation and rehabilitation of prisoners and their reintegration into society. In the present day we have cast off the moorings and set sail for the open seas of penal correction. If we paused once again and looked back at the history of previous penal correction activities, however, we would see the history of the earnest struggles of those who were dedicated to the betterment and rehabilitation of criminals. Please try to visualize the form that penal correction will take 30 or 50 years into the future beyond the present “Building Together” period.
From this stage of “Building Together,” we would like to begin making into reality a prison imbued with a new vision. We will make efforts that allow us to come one step closer to the ideal kind of penal correction that that the future demands. The public and private sectors each make use of their intelligence and networks to build together with each other, and of course, they also place great importance on "building together" with the local region. We are utilizing the abilities of a wide range of people, as well as the history and nature of Shimane, such as the sound, smell and color of Iwami, that are the local region’s plentiful resources. We at the Shimane Asahi Rehabilitation Program Center embrace local ideas and are taking sincere initiatives to go and “build together” with the local region. “The Shimane Asahi Rehabilitation Support Community Model” was born here and it is a combination of the power of the local region, the experience of the state and the know-how of the private sector. In order for this to be a signpost for a new kind of penal correction and to enable this Shimane Asahi Rehabilitation Program Center to be a facility that contributes to society, each one of use will set about administering the facility with great determination.
